If memory serves Corrine specified that Athelstan-the-character was not to be a part of the Longshore forces.
However, I see no reason that Athelstan-the-player could not control Leifnarr... unless you really want to experience the warfare system first-hand.

Well, given the conversation in the mechanics thread, they may be quite useful, as this battle is in theory in the mountains - which is why they should be in this battle and not the other one.
They weren't included in either list because Dunstan's post about them came later.

Perhaps give us the merc archers to make up the difference?

Ser Mather would make a decent replacement sub-commander for Yoren... though no matter how bad of a commander, anyone can succeed at the first order to an Elite unit - and there are a few in this war.

The other battle may need a replacement sub-commander as well, as Dyana has been absent for some time... maybe the leader of the merc unit could do that?

Mountaineers: (Veteran Guerillas;
7 Power) - Routine (6) Discipline - Athletics 3, Marksmanship 4, Stealth 4

Ser Mather has warfare 2 in chronicle starter, so maybe not the best of options. He's a very strong archer though, so he is probably better as a hero for sniping fun during character phase.

Well, if we find somebody else, that is fine too, otherwise W2 should be high enough for him to command an elite unit as Baelon mentioned above.

Hm, you are right, I somehow thought he was replaced by Jorah, but that would work nice. So Ser Warren becomes a hero and Garret a subcommander.

Corrine's wariness of letting Athelstan lead a force was because she didn't want him bumping off Yoren. If the Longshore succession crisis is resolved though, then she'd be prepared to let Athelstan lead a unit. She just doesn't want a bunch of Ironborn infighting mucking up the Marsten forces.

Remember that during the battle any commander/sub-commander on a side can order any unit on that side... given the ratio of Longshore to non-Longshore orders, it would be very easy to use the Longshore troops as shock troops - send them charging headlong into the enemy to do as much damage as possible before being destroyed...

Might be best not to make anyone think you might do anything AFTER the clans are defeated, too.

heros take damage when the unit they are attached to takes damage, is disorganized, is routed, or is destroyed. Your units wouldn't be the only thing at risk.
How good of a commander Leifnarr is wouldn't matter much... he still only gets one command a round.

Well, you wouldn't know IC regardless. And OOC I haven't planned anything, but you never know what others will do...

I meant assure us IC, not OOC. There are plenty involved that already don't trust House Longshore, and would be more than happy to read something worse than is there in any situation.

What's the holdup? Is it anything I can help with?

I was hoping Reader could give some confirmation regarding number of subcommanders, who will play the clans and whether its okay that both sides just set up their battle formation without going back and fourth (basically all the greentext comments in the thread)

A reminder that both mass combats against the clans are worth 2 glory.

For each battle, the commander chooses how this glory is allocated.
- At least 1 of the 4 total glory must go to House Marsten.
