I have done some damn stupid things this tournament. I really have to say, this tops the lot.

Daveth was sitting with Ser Jorah, speaking with Lord Darry. 'Awkward' didn't even begin to describe it. Particularly once he started explaining *why* he was there.

However, based on what Daveth had learned about House Darry earlier, they wanted a clean break with their association with the Faith Militant rebels. Really, there was only one significant hurdle to making an agreement: that the Darrys hated the Coldbrooks.

So, here he was, attempting to argue with Lord Darry that the best way to distance himself from the unfortunate acts of his distant relatives was to take up arms alongside said relatives' foes and crush the so-called Faith Militant rebels. All without *actually* directly mentioning that anyone with the name 'Darry' ever had anything to do with the Faith Militant. The verbal gymnastics this required were not easy.

(OOC: Reader will number-crunch intrigue. Plan is to start off with Charm actions, followed by Convince once his Composure is low. Disposition is indifferent, as Daveth is willing to believe that they really do just have embarrassing relatives, and don't want anything to do with them.)

Ser Jorah sat quietly. He wondered if his presence would be a problem. He had killed one of their family, admittedly one whom had been more or less in exile and blighting the Riverlands. He was entirely justified, but family was rarely that simple.

ooc
Jorah will assist generally, but can also mollify Daveth if he needs to.

[OOC: please roll away for the PCs and if someone can crunch the numbers that would be very helpful - you can offer a negotiated yield at any point from round 3, Lord Darry succesfully reads his target at this point and is convinced you don't mean any immediate harm]

Thanks to Ser Jorah's assist, I succeed on round 1! +1D

Charm Damage: 17-21: (8-6=) 2, 22-26: (12-6=) 6
Convince Damage: 22-26: (9-6=) 3
Probably offer yield on my 2nd-3rd hit, depending on if Ser Jorah successfully assists in round 1.

Round 1 (unordered):
Ser Jorah assists +1 (13)
Daveth Reads Target successfully
Lord Joffrey Darry fails read

Round 2 (initiative order)
Daveth does 2 damage (10/12) (17)
Lord Joffrey Darry fails read
Ser Jorah Assists +1 (13)

Round 3
Daveth does 2 damage (8/12) (17+1)
Lord Joffrey Darry fails read
Ser Jorah assists +1 (15)

Round 4
Daveth does 0 damage (8/12) (11+1)
Lord Joffrey Darry does 0 damage (9/9)
Ser Jorah assists +1 (13)

Round 5
Daveth does 2 damage (6/12) (17+1)
Lord Joffrey Darry does 7 damage (2/9)
Ser Jorah mollifies - fail (9)

Daveth offers yield of unoccupied Land for help. But exactly how much Land depends on what's on the table in terms of support.

Ser Jorah assists - now the relevant stats are all 3, so if a mollify will help, its the same roll

Lord Joffrey Darry is a stout man who constantly invokes the Seven and dry washes his hands as he negotiates with Daveth and Jorah, his Lady wife Clayre is thinner and at least a decade younger but was not chosen solely for her looks - she has a firm command of oratory.

Lord Darry seems keen to cast of his family's troubled history by making public cause with House Coldbrook, but only if he can avoid the cardinal sin of kinslaying and come away with a prize he can parade to his House to show them compromise can bring reward. He is all too aware of the risks of irking hot-blooded members of his house.

Still, he seems sincere in his desire for rapprochement, personally thanking Ser Jorah for cleansing the stain the wild Ser Lionel had dealt to House Darry's good name. While many within House Darry have not forgiven House Coldbrook, Joffrey seems more focused on restoring his family's lands and name than appeasing his family by settling old scores.

[OOC: Daveth wrapping things up based on whether or not he accepts a PM negotiated yield]

It's a tough negotiation, but in the end, they shake on a deal. House Coldbrook cedes some unpopulated land on their border. In exchange, House Darry will not only provide backing in court, but will also send a unit of infantry led by their Master of Arms, Ser Damian Piper, to assist in any campaign against the Faith Militant. Lord Joffrey does make the demand that, since nobody is as accursed as the kinslayer, none of Darry blood will be marching, which Daveth accepts.

(OOC: Give 2 land, get 1 influence, and a unit of regular infantry to assist in any campaign, led by their Master of Arms, Ser Damian Piper. Ser Robb Darry (second son of house Darry) becomes unfriendly towards both Daveth and his own parents.)

(OOC: One thing I do want to check before we go: If we capture a 'rebel' Darry during the campaign, do they have any requests as to how we handle it?)

That actually went a lot better than I thought it would. Daveth thinks, after having politely said his goodbyes.

[OOC: Awareness (empathy) 6 test please - they're trying to communicate a specific message on Darry prisoners but don't want to say it in so many words.]

[OOC: more fun for me if you were guessing, but fair's fair. :;
): They want you to know this:

The Sword for captured Darrys - they'd be troublemakers back home, of which they have enough already. Ideally killed quickly, quietly and out of sight of Darry troops. The victim(s) "
fell in battle"
.

Hope your Northern house's honour can bear it.]
