[Contest]Dance

Part of the Grand Ball is an opportunity to show off on the dance floor.

[Of course, had I been paying attention, I would have made it a couples contest, which would have been interesting. Too late now, sadly.]

[OPTIONAL]Agility (Balance) (TN9) is for showing off. +1B per degree of success, -1D for failure.
Status (Breeding) (TN9) sees that you are able to do dance adequately like nobility taught you.

Corrine loved dancing, though it was over-enthusiasm that led to her almost injuring herself. She did not do anything egregiously bad or embarrassing, managing to keep to decorum, but in trying to do an elaborate mod-step spin, she stumbled over the skirts of another dancer and almost fell. However, she caught Ben's arms and was saved by him sweeping her back onto her feet. She hoped that observers might put her bright blush down to exertion.

At the dance, Gwyn didn't embarrass herself, but it was clear to anyone paying attention that her heart wasn't in it that evening. The movements were more rote, her usual grace and poise lacking.

I am invited, he tells himself for the dozenth time. And I have already done well here. It's...It's just dancing. You can do this.

Reassure himself as he might try, he's still tense. Visibly so, a bastard jumped above his station by acquitting himself well in martial endeavors, not at all at ease with these sort of affairs...but forcing himself to learn.

He studies others' footwork with a swordsman's practiced eye, and -- perhaps using exactly that skillset -- manages not to completely embarrass himself when it's his turn to try and keep up. Thank the Maiden, he's not terrible.

But still, he doesn't smile until his dance is over, and when the smile splits his beard, it's with a relieved sigh.

Time to dance. Great. Jon Cobb had taught her a little about dancing, but this was no swaying soiree, for as much of that as they did anyhow. Everyone off on their own or in groups but not with a partner to steady them, no one's lead to follow. Briefly, she recalls the words of a foreign criminal from whatever afterlife awaited him after his hanging: "A woman should be careful. Where a man is from, even dancing is deadly." If only you knew how much.


Gamble or go home. So you can't dance, what else is new? Mindful of her footing, she gets bolder with her movements while retaining grace and sticking to the predictable form and pattern of those in attendance, surprising even herself as talent and intuition coming together to help her pass another one of the tests Daveth had (knowingly?) created in setting up these events.

Ah, there you are!

Baelon didn't really get taught courtly dances as a child... but Rhaena and Baela were and taught him a few things. Since being ennobled, he had worked quite hard to be able to fit in among those that had been born to their position.

The feline grace developed from years of mastering the sword was an asset for the physical aspects of dancing, allowing him to maintain his posture and form where other more experienced dancers might not. In the end though, court dancing was more about knowing the steps than anything physically demanding. Baelon was satisfied that he had done well enough, though with more practice he is sure he could do better.

Ser Walton, elegant and well-groomed for tonight's ball, despite being dressed in leather, not velvets like most of surrounding him people, shined on the dance floor. That wasn't something he usually did, but little drinking and atmosphere of grand ball, where even Mighty Dulver seemed respected, made him bolder. Young knight was considered good dancer in Westerland taverns, but Coldbrook's great hall wasn't good place for wild dances he used to. In effect he performed something in between, what would please his Lord Father and Septon Arlyn, who always wanted to groom him to act like noble man. But unpleasantness of not performing dance of 'burning ass', didn't leave him for whole night...

Part of Ser Jorah’s duties protecting members of the Royal Family had resulted in his entrance to the dance floor on more than one occasion, providing a dance partner to any of the many young ladies who made up the Royal Family or whose prestigious family sought a partner that would not take advantage and happened to be in favour with either green or black faction at that given point.
So, to the surprise of those present, especially members of House Coldbrook, he glided around the ball quite ably, though without any dramatic flurries.

Not intending to try any too extravagant moves, Kevan nevertheless moved confident through the ball. The practice he had thanks to his lovely wife clearly showed. Lady Sofia smiled at him, as she herself danced admirably her appearance causing more than one young courtier to stumble in their own dance moves.

When the time came, Davain let Ayleth drag him out onto the dance floor. While Davain was able to keep up with his wife, it was clear that his knowledge of how to dance was basic at best.

Ereth picks Alya up and they begin to dance slowly and picking up the step as they go. Ereth is capable of keeping with the dance motions in a passable fashion, while Alya seems to be far more nimble than him, but she was being considerate enough to not make Ereth at least look a tad better than he probably is at dancing.

A dancing competition ? Well, why not ! It had been a long time, but it was an interesting way of finding out whether he was still any good in the more courtly things. The setting was a bit public, but he wasn't too concerned. Whether the two ales had had any hand in that as well would remain a question for the ages, though...
