[D2, EE] The Murdered Lord (Closed-ish)

After the hunt at Stone Hedge, Corrine rides to Raventree Hall. With the information she has, she is certain that someone within the castle either helped the assassin, or was themselves the assassin.

Nobles and peasants alike seem grief-stricken and guilty when Corrine questions them, though she finds it difficult to be sure whether they are remorseful at failing to protect their lord, or if there is something more sinister at play.

The servants are furious, feeling the guards were inadequate or that the attackers must have had help. The two prisoners, Henryk and Arn, who survived the attack, don’t give up much, but amidst their defiance, Corrine does feel they did indeed have a map or inside information. Upon pressing further, Henryk confesses to having been paid by Ser Rufus Bracken and provided with a map. A culprit in the chain of command.

It also transpires that Ser Myles Blackwood's troops were not on guard.

Surely the Lord's brother's veteran troops should have been on duty?! This requires priority investigation.

Corrine would have been angered by these revelations, but along with her affection for Benjicot, the information makes her no less than furious, feeling sick for having hunted alongside Rufus Bracken earlier with no knowledge of his crime.

She seeks out Ser Myles with a dark rage in her heart, though the suspicion that, before the week is out, she may bear such anger towards both Bracken and Blackwood, for the bloodshed of their endless rancour.
