Yeah, feeling a bit of guilt for having fanned the flames that led to the murder. I didn't anticipate Ser Jorah's family history coming into play. For that matter, I didn't KNOW his family's history, though in hindsight there were a fair number of clues.

Just to double check before I churn out some rolls, Archery contest is essentially Archer's choice in regards to their Bow(training die vs no training die)? I used my longbow while backfilling in the Riverrun tourney and later realized that might not be the optimal strategy.

I'd be inclined to use a longbow - most people present would be, and not using one feels a bit gamey?

Luecian will do whatever the norm and the NPC's are doing...so Longbow it is!

Would it be better to list base difficulties, and then actual ranges, for each roll? Then let people use whatever bow they want, but maybe having to deal with the longer range would encourage different bows (IIRC how ranges work)?

Honestly, the mechanics are taken directly from how they were done at Riverrun.  Given what Reader's said, I'm happy saying you have to use Longbows. The entire tourney is something of a side-event, let's not make things more complex than they need to be.

And I would just like to take a moment to acknowledge that organising a tournament is bloomin' hard work!  And that's with Reader doing a fair portion of the heavy lifting.  And Reader organised a much more complex one before.

The point I'm trying to make is that times like this really hammer home how much effort Reader puts into this.  So, y'know.  Thanks.

All bows (and crossbows for that matter) have the same range in this system, they vary primarily on damage and training. Now, if the targets had AR to punch through, you could have a strategic choice of accuracy vs damage. For accuracy, hunting bow is the best (no training penalty) and the other two are the same (1b training penalty). Longbow does the most damage, though a particularly strong archer might choose a double-curved bow - or one who likes to shoot from horseback.

Yeah, I remembered seeing "Close Range" and "Long Range" on a chart somewhere, but it looks like it's a pretty broad category for each; thrown weapons and better-than-thrown-weapons, basically. I thought they might be more detailed than that.

Oh well. I figured it was worth a shot.

Deception is not a strong suit of Ben's. If it helps to appease Nathan, Ben can do this event in his carnival loincloth only. It would make an interesting crawl through the tunnel.
