[D7, ME] The Grand Ball Empty [D7, ME] The Grand Ball

Post by Reader Fri Jul 03, 2015 12:16 pm

Grand Ball
Despite the local, limited fare that House Tully has offered at feasts so far, tonight's grand ball is a wonderful occasion, enlivened by talented local musicians and bright outfits brought by guests, rather than the troubled Lord Tully. Lords and ladies smile as they seek to make an impression in clothes made by the finest weavers from as far away as King's Landing and Oldtown, using materials from the distant shores of Essos and the finest cloth merchants in the Reach.

Participants:
as many per house as desired.

Challenge:

Status (breeding) TN9
Awareness (empathy) TN9
Persuasion/Deceit (any - but potential conseuquences for certain choices) TN9

Consequences: For each degree of success you earn 1 point. Take your point total - you may improve the disposition of an NPC with status equal to your point total by one step.
Instead, you may attempt to improve an NPC's disposition towards another PC/NPC, but this lowers your score by two points. Each character may have their disposition towards a particular other PC or NPC only once by this event.
Highest score overall (based on points scored before deduction for helping others, rolled total is tiebreaker) = +1 glory and may increase Green or Black score by one as your faction benefits from your graceful presence.

[D7, ME] The Grand Ball Empty Re: [D7, ME] The Grand Ball

Post by Septon Arlyn Fri Jul 03, 2015 12:59 pm

Septon Arlyn enters the ball after changing out of his damaged vestments. He begins to mingle with the crowd and speaking of his desire to build a orphanage. After mingling he sat down at a table and began to enjoy a smoky turkey drum stick.

"
Ah Ser Rickard! I have heard that you competed well in the joust. My thanks to you for supporting the royal family. I hear that you have done some pretty accomplished things to become a kingsgaurd, would you mind enlightening me on them?"
After Ser Rickard shares some of his daring exploits and mildly swollen tales of bravery the Septon laughs along and gasps at appropriate points, finally finishing with, "
The warrior has a strong symbol of knighthood in you Ser! Your deeds will surely be smiled upon in front of the seven"

(Spending a DP to increase Princess Rhaenyra's disposition by one step.)

Corrine approaches Ser Erryk Cargyll, striking up a light-hearted conversation, mostly about the tourney events, avoiding gossip.

Must make a good impression.

Once she has ingratiated herself, she asks for an introduction to Princess Rhaenyra, which Ser Erryk happily obliges.

She begins by complimenting the Princess' fine jewellery, and is pleased &
relieved to find Her Grace quite personable. Rhaenyra brings up the topic of Corrine's upcoming wedding to Ser Benedict, curious about the fact she made the match herself, especially in such a historically religious House. And why Ser Benedict in particular?

Corrine responds with positive explanations of Ser Benedict's many good qualities that make him suitable, though she also reveals with an air of friendly confidentiality that her deep affection for him was also a factor.

"
It seemed to me that I was in the rare and valuable position to do things differently, being a female heir. To show Westeros that leadership is not the sole domain of men, and perhaps should not be. And, more importantly, that women can and should be able to be masters of their own destiny. I have the good fortune to have several strong and capable women in my life who inspire me,"
she adds, not just referring to her mother and cousins, but hinting at the Princess herself.

It transpires, from speaking of progressive gender politics, that the Princess, like Corrine, is an admirer of the Dornish, and Corrine is fascinated to hear Rhaenyra talk engagingly about some points of interest in Dornish history.

The time comes for the Princess to move on, but she smiles graciously at Corrine, and thanks her for the interesting discussion. Corrine curtsies deeply, and expresses her best wishes to the Princess, also thanking her for her time, and the lovely conversation.

She also says farewell to Ser Erryk, who politely returns it, accompanied by a friendly smile and a wink.

(Dispositions of Ser Erryk Cargyll and Princess Rhaenyra towards Corrine increase from Indifferent to Amiable.)

1 shy of a 4th DoS on that charm roll... oh well.
I'm guessing both the Prince and the Princess have >
5 Status, so I'm going to have to think about my target.

EDIT2: I will target Ser Erryk Cargyll. I will update with RP when I can.

[D7, ME] The Grand Ball Empty Re: [D7, ME] The Grand Ball

Post by Theomore Tullison Fri Jul 03, 2015 2:26 pm

Theomore always enjoyed this sort of thing, skillfully moving about the room to take in the talks and gossips, showing interest in all that crossed his path, and extricates himself at opportune moments as to cover more ground and not stay long enough for anyone to become bored of him. Or rather, he doesn't feel quite up to telling people about himself, might have to lie. Of course, Theomore would not be Theomore without an objective in mind, or knowing things nobody else did for that matter. And so it is no coincidence that he finds himself face to face with Ser Niall Lucas, a man with a highly interesting concern to share, one that Theomore pretends to only have heard of in passing. But now that ser Niall mentions it, perhaps a way to alleviating it might be be within reach? House Tullison is close to the Blackwoods after all. And in return? A new friend is a reward in an of itself, no?

Dunstan walked, and danced and talked, but his mind were set on the hilarious court jester the Royal Family brought along. Mushrooms was his name, and Dunstan snortoed with laughter every time he would make up a song or hit somebody with an air infused pig bladder. At the end they talked too, and exchanged jokes.

Lord Tomas Coldbrook had decided to make one of his fairly rare appearances at the Grand Ball, believing that a few dances and some good company could do both him and his wife some good.

Daveth Coldbrook had therefore decided to do his best to facilitate his father's desires. Making introductions to people he thought his parents would find interesting, and deflecting away those likely to seek to subtly slight them, or discuss matters they'd find boring, or seek to make deals, so they could both just focus on having a good time.

They didn't stay for the full event, and as they were leaving, while he didn't give a word of thanks, Lord Coldbrook did at least give a small nod towards his adoptive son. It wasn't warm, but it was something.

Ser Kevan approaches the Blackwood family, where Lord Blackwood is surrounded by several vassals that try to impress the influental lord. No chance to talk to him here, but maybe I can make myself known to his family, Kevan thinks as he sees the Lord's brother, Ser Tyron, standing a bit to the side sipping on a glass of wine.
"
Ser Tyron, nice to see you! I saw you participate in the joust and I have to compliment you, you rode excellent!"
he walks over to the knight and offers a salute with his own wine glass. The Blackwood knight seems delighted to talk to a fellow jouster and the two of them start a lively discussion about the various jouster's and their technique in the saddle.

_________
Ser Tyron Blackwood's disposition towards Kevan improves

2 dos... I guess I won't have too many to talk to, perhaps the princesses cup bearer...

Whereas the others try to get the attention of the more important individuals, Yoren tries another tack, singling out a servant he approaches: "
let me help you with that, thats heavy enough for the both of us. Good party here, have you been serving for long? Ah, yes, with maturity comes responsibility. Would you mind joining me for a proper drink afterwards, i'm quite frankly fed up with these parties where the one objective seems to be sucking up to your superiors..."

Ellie Blackthorne

Ellie graciously approaches Lady Isobel. "
My Lady, I am lady Ellien Blackthorne, sister to Ser Benedict. It is a pleasure to finally meet you. I can see where Lady Corrine gets her beauty and commanding presence."
She smiles warmly.

Knowing her low status will get her nowhere with such a prestigious woman, Ellie turns on her charm. She does her very best to remember her courtesies, punctuate her words, and appear dignified.

In the end she curtsies and thanks Lady Isobel for her time. Turning to leave she can not help but to smile, feeling she may have made a good impression.

Ha. Ice Queen my arse. Old Ladies love me. I am surprised she did not give me candy.

[Status of NPCs - hopefull you can guess from the rulebook. There's a guest list in the almanac.

Feel free to put together a priority list and I'll award you the highest status character you qualify for tonight.

Kingsguard are status 5 and make an interesting choice, for those searching for ideas.]

If I decide to alter my DP spend to grt the chance to be able to speak with the Princess personally, as was my first choice, would a successful roll translate into being approached/approaching directly/having to speak to guards first? And what would the princess discuss? I ask for the purposes of constructing rp.]
