House Marsten - LADY POWER!

Very well, I'm PMing Reader right now with my initial ideas. Depending on his response, I'll outline things for you people here. And, ah... thanks for the warm welcomes! Very Happy

Hooray, sorry we were hard to find. Good numbers now and active, so focusing on RP rather than forums for recruiting.

Good thing there are good numbers! When I found a month-and-a-half old ad somewhere, I half-expected to find either a closed or a dead forum already. Pleasantly surprised to see a thriving and approachable game, and eager to contribute with something of my own!

Well, Tullisons could use an Yve, to round out the cast of Mountain's Reach.

Oh, an Yves would be great, I will say.

And not just because I want someone to catfight with.

I was not planning on using a pre-made character. One of the best parts of roleplaying, to me, is crafting a character of your own... and besides, my concept was sort of vastly different from Yve. Reader said in the PMs that I could make do in Marsten.

Unless the girls don't want me? I can deal with rejection, I think. Laughing

You can always modify the pre-made character, there's nothing stopping you from doing that, if you wanted Smile

Anyway, good luck with character creation!

Yeah, I modified Corrine quite a lot, mostly in personality, but in skills too.

Aged Corrie up by 5 years, too.

The thing with the pre-gens is that few of them are really suited for pick-up and play. The only constant with Yve is that she's younger than Dunstan and that she's a schemer concerned with finding a wife that can take good care of him before she herself will want to be married off to someone.

With Ayleth in BITW, all I kept was her marital status, house of birth, and her role as Davain's political guardian, plus the parts of the flavour I liked. I don't think the "
out-of-the-box"
Ayleth we have now is anything near as vicious.

Well guys, alright, I'm going to be a Marsten whether you like it or not. IN YOUR FACE TULLISONS

<

I do need to work on something. Dyana should be an older cousin to the heir, Corrine, and as such she needs parents. I understand there are disappeared/dead relatives that could fit? Where can I find some more information on them - their ages, other sons, etc.?

Gwyn is a slightly older cousin;
the daughter of Corrine's uncle who has indeed vanished in, or en route to, Essos and is now presumed lost.

He's known to have 'gotten around' a bit, so it wouldn't be impossible for you to be a half-sister to Gwyn...though you wouldn't then be a Marsten, technically.

Hmm! There may be other branches in the family tree for you to sprout from though! I am not too familiar with it beyond the immediate drama of Isobel, Mikael and their direct offspring.

The only siblings I am aware of are the deceased Lord Corben's missing (presumed dead) brother, Mikael.
Mikael is Gwyn's father, so you would be her sister.

On the other hand, you could be for instance a second cousin, postulating that Corrine would have a (deceased) great-uncle, but again, any male relatives of yours would need to be deceased or by tradition they would be the Lord of House Marsten... and House Marsten (prior to the current generation, anyway) is quite traditional.

EDIT:

Er yeah, what Gwyn said. Though it is certainly possible that Gwyn's mother was Mikael's second wife, so you could be half-sisters and still both be legitimate Marstens.
The question becomes, especially if Dyana is older: why hasn't she been married yet? Noblewomen should expect to be married by 20 barring political reasons (such as Hawys Kytley being left unmarried so that her marriage can be used to seal an alliance). In this case though Lady Isobel has been pushing Gwyn to marry - why would she not have done so with Dyana?

Actually, no.

A daughter of the lord comes before the brothers and nephews of that lord. On paper anyway.

Technically, but that paper doesn't really carry much weight. If nothing else though, a male relative likely would have been made regent, not Lady Isobel.

EDIT: The 'traditional' aspect I had been referencing was in regard to male preference, not inheritance customs;
they would be in conflict in such a case.

Well the only possible parent for a Marsten parentage is Lady Isobel, as Gwyneth is an only child of Mikael(said uncle of Corrine), who sailed to Essos and was never seen or heard from again. Corrine is the sole heir. I'm afraid there just wouldn't be room for you in the Marsten line.

Unless one of two things: 1)you'd be alright with changing it to Stone, in which case you could have Gareth Stone as your father;
or 2)Reader is willing to work you in and let you keep "
Marsten"
as your last name and not just the name of the house you are affiliated with.

Or, by Baelon's suggestion, you could be Lord Corben's niece. No claim to the throne, but you get to have the last name "
Marsten"
. Dear old dad would need to be dead, but that doesn't mean Lady Isobel can't have a sister-in-law(your mother)!

Hmm, thanks for all the insights, guys. I'll think on all of this. Might have to go with the route Baelon suggested.

Edit: I have no intention in being in the heritage line, by the way.

You forget that it's Isobel we're talking about.

As for Gareth Stone, the trouble with that is that GR once again didn't do their diligence. He's unacknowledged, and only Isobel and the maester suspect that he's got any Marsten blood at all. He's no stone, he's just Gareth. Much more interesting if he's an acknowledged bastard of Mikael though.

That being said, we know nothing of any cousins Corben might have.
