Ser Escobert Graen "
The Crimson Stag of Greenrest"
or so he calls himself and other local knights, he sits at the far end of the champions and he is quickly challenged by lord Miraz Erenford, with his golden heron feathers adorning his lance tip, and a typical thing for Erenford knight and his mean-at-arms spears.

Ser Escobert smiles and walks down to face lord Miraz.

Ser Escobert rides a blue roan rounsey and raises his lance saluting his opponent, dropping his visor. When the flag is waves he spurs his horse and rides abit above his saddle for increased momentum and a better angle to strike from. Equally lord Miraz accepts the challenge and seeks to put the knight in his place, teaching him the greatness of the heron knights and their golden plumes.

Lances break on each other, and Ser Escobert aggressive riding leaves him on the ground as he cannot recover quick enough from lord Miraz hit to remain seated.

Lord Miraz had barely got comfortable on his champion chair when Ser Glendon Goode tapped his shield.

Both knights charge and their lances smash against each other, and while they both remain seated, Lord Miraz is the one that looks to have taken the worst of that pass. Lord Miraz sends a page to Ser Glendon and nodding to his request, they both make an honorable pass with their lances held high, this is after all a small tournament, and Lord Miraz decides is not worth pushing his luck with the injuries he has sustained, letting the better knight take his place as champion.

Edit: Forgot to use Talented (Fighting) for Ser Glendon, not that it mattered much against Lord Miraz.

Lane 1 Challengers Empty Re: Lane 1 Challengers

Post by Baelon Drakeson Wed Feb 24, 2016 6:54 pm

Baelon takes the field for the first of what he anticipates will be many tilts. He is not wearing the dragon-scale enameled plate that he wore during the Marsten clan war and the week in battle valley. Instead, he is wearing heavily ornamented plate - the helm done up as a dragon's head, ridges on the back of the arms are reminiscent of dragon wings, and so on. He wears a cloak with the arched field of the Drakeson sigil, dusky purple over sanguine. The cloak pin is an enameled white star. On his arm are no less than three favors - the black and the red he has worn at every tourney for years, and one patterned in Drakeson colors with white stars.

His squire, Jojen Blackwood, hands him a tourney lance and he takes position, saluting Ser Glendon and waiting for the signal...

Edit: I forgot to use Talented (Fighter) against Lord Miraz, but the outcome would have been the same (or worse) for lord Miraz.

Ser Glendon Goode comes from a storied House of great knights that have been members of the Kingsguard of great renown, and so far he has shown to be cut above the common knights as expected. Facing a worthy opponent he mounts a white courser, wearing his plate and a white shield brooch holding his sanguine cloak depicting the Goode sigil (a golden chevron with a rampant gold lion on each corner top and one golden lion at the bottom.

Ser Goode raises his lance saluting a worthy foe and dangerous one as well. Once the signal is given Ser Glendon plays his first pass safe.

At the signal, the two knights charge, crashing together. Both lances shatter, but Baelon's is clearly the superior blow - Ser Glendon is lifted clean from his saddle, while the crowd-named Dragon's Son is not so much as rocked in his seat.

Goode, but not good enough. He smirks inwardly at his (terrible) pun, glad that his visor conceals his expression so no one can ask what he thought was funny.

Seeing his opponent rise from the ground, Baelon salutes his fallen foe and his host, then takes his position in the champion's box.

21 vs PR 14, 2 DoS;
20 - 10AR = 10 damage and a TN 12 ride test - failed.

Ser Glendon: 18 vs. PR 22, 0 DoS.

EDIT: looks like Ser Glendon kept an extra die, but was once again shorted Talented. Should have been 9d6k4+1-2 ->
[6,5,4,4]-1 = 18;
no change in result, though.

The first challenger for Baelon's champion box is Ser Thomos Pyle, a knight of whom Baelon knows more or less nothing other than the sigil he wears - three greathelms on white. Presumably then he is the third son of House Pyle. Getting into position, he salutes his opponent and waits for the signal...

Riding with the recklessness inherent to the young knights and eager to prove himself, Ser Thomos charged forward standing high in his saddle, hoping to to achieve an impressive victory against a well-known knight. After all, as a third son of a minor knight he had to take destiny in his own hands.

Ser Thomos' lance strikes true, but so does Baelon's - and Baelon's strikes harder. The triple-helm knight falls from his saddle, but Baelon's superior horsmanship - and a good dose of that invisible force "
luck"
- keep him upright.

Lane 1 Challengers Empty Re: Lane 1 Challengers

Post by Kevan Lyras Thu Feb 25, 2016 5:29 pm

The line of challengers for Lane 1 was long. The opportunity to compete with the Targaryen bastard (not that anybody would have named him so openly) seemed to have a certain appeal to the glory-hungry, despite the fact that he far outmatched even the more skilled ones of the bunch.

The next challenger was Ser Symon Granit, a relatively unknown sworn sword to a minor local house. Unfazed by what happened to his precursor, or maybe too stubborn to care, he opted for the same approach.

Baelon hoped that Ser Symon's name implied hard-headedness, and not the stability of a mountain. Both lances hit and shatter, but both knights remain seated... for the first time all day, a Lane 1 joust is going to a second pass...

It is not known why the minor House Granit named as it is, but malicious tongues say it had something to do with the expression 'dumb as a rock'. Ser Symon seemed unimpressed by the first tilt, turning around, receiving a second lance before charging for the second tilt, not changing his approach one bit.

What in some is unthinking repetitiveness is in others a deliberate strategy. Baelon also maintains his prior stance. Though his own blow is insufficient to unhorse Ser Symon, it is clearly the superior strike.
Baelon wheels about, retrieving a fresh lance from Jojen and prepares for a third pass...

[OOC: You are correct;
I don't know why I was thinking half plate. I'll enjoy the extra ransom, thanks!

The third time is a charm, or so they say. Ser Symon Granit once again lies his full strength into his lance, but his strikes are not precise enough to truely challenge his opponent. At the same time he proves another quality of his family, as he does not crumble and endures the blows of his opponent who seem to hit him without any effect.

For a third pass, Baelon and Ser Symon maintain their strategies... and for a third time Baelon's strike is superior... but both lances break.
Baelon once again is unharmed by his opponent's strike, his foe though, slumps forward limply in his saddle... while not unhorsed, the Granit knight passed out from Baelon's blow, and is unable to continue.

Ser Symon Granit and Ser Thomos Pyle... I should mention them to Daveth. I suspect their talents are being wasted where they are.

: 10d6k4-2 21 (typo, should have said pass 3)
21 vs. PR 14, 2 DoS;
20 - 10AR = 10 Damage and a TN 12 Ride test (passed, but see below)

19 vs. PR 22, 0 DoS.

If my math is right, Ser Symon is defeated:
After Pass 1: 2/10
CYB: 5/10
After Pass 2: 5/10
CYB (at most 4): 9/10
After Pass 3: -1/10

Being a tertiary, he cannot take injuries.

If that is correct, then Lane 1 is done - All the Knights and Hedge Knight bouts can be hand-waived, they cannot unhorse me (maximum on Xk3 is 18, +2 from maneuver is 20... I would have PR 22).

with a narrative of how Baelon just dispatches 6 knights for day 2 and 3 since they have 0 chances to do anything like you say.

Lord Drakeson, was an unlikely guest at Lord Redwain's tounrey but a predictable champion, given his qualities as a knight.

Seasoned judges referred to a stroke of fortune in the young Lord keeping his seat in one early match, but htis was long forgotten as Prince Daemon's alleged bastard rode down opponent after opponent to retain his position as a champion until the bitter end.

[OOC:

Have waving Lord Drakeson's average knight opponents as they're mathematically not able to win.

Lord Drakeson earns +1 glory and an awful lot of ransoms.

For the remainder of the day, and for the next two days of competition, Baelon rides like one touched by the Warrior himself. His opponent's lances being as ineffective as if he were the very dragon of his sigil, rather than merely protected by armor suggesting it. Many do not manage to break a single lance against him.

The Drakeson words, "
See How We Soar"
, seem utterly appropriate as the man that some call the Dragon's Son soars over the field and through the competition.
