Post by Ereth Redwain Mon Feb 22, 2016 4:50 pm

Ereth sits comfortably in his chair next to Alya making small conversation for now, and wondering if someone would even challenging him, considering all the more prominent target and that it is his wedding day, he most likely will go unchallenged or it would be hedge knights seeking to impress him for service or some such, but he was open to surprises.

Alya and Ereth will engage the other champions while waiting for the challengers.

After a long wait, a challenger finally steps in, Lord Benedict Marsten taps the Redwain shield, an inner fire has been ignited and lord Redwain is now excited that finally someone challenged him, win or lose he wants to have fun.

Challengers Day 1

Ben watches the other champions quickly receive challengers. The groom stood unchallenged, whether out of honor or fear, it is uncertain. Considering the Lord Redwain's relaxed demeanor he did not expect much.

I would not wish to sit idly by. Win or lose. I would ride to show my love.

Ben trots, Strax, forward. The horse more adorned and embellished than Ben cared for, but a Lord must look the park. His own armor while simple was well cared for. Dipping his head low in a mounted bow, he reaches his lance tip out to touch the Redwain shield. The opened helm reveals a sincere smile.

"
Lord Redwain, I feared you would not have a chance to show your Lady how hard you would fight for her."
His eyes shift form Ereth to Alya and brighten.

"
My lady your beauty far outshines the courtly gossip. I would hope the same is true of your alleged passions. For our passions are the winds that propel our vessel."
Looking back to Ereth. "
Our reason is the pilot that steers her. Without winds the vessel would not move and without a pilot she would be lost."

And to think had Yoren and Dunstan's negotiations in Riverrun not fallen apart, I might have been her groom. The gods do work mysteriously.

Lost in his thoughts, but speaking openly he says. "
No matter how big the sea may be, sometimes two ships meet."

Ereth stands and smiles "
Those are fighting words lord Benedict"
but his smile dies as the lord seems to be stepping out of place.

"
You may be a good jouster to have the balls to step forth and say what you just did, but I will not be insulted in my own wedding day, while you flirt with my wife for all to see as if I was some powerless dog. You might have just made an enemy today you will regret later, that is...
a wicked smile crosses his face before standing to get ready to joust.

Ereth comes out moments later in his armor riding a silver dapple black courser with a red caparison in it's hind quarters with the Redwain crest embroiled raising his lance saluting his opponent. Ereth is regretting his armor won't be available for this tournament, it would be less painful so he will start with a more defensive posture to gauge his opponent strength.

Ben gallops to the starting line. The raised bleachers draw his gaze. A loving glance to his Lady wife and he raisies his lance to Lord Redwain, he then snaps his visor down. His gloved fingers give her worn braid and affectionate squeeze. Once Ereth signals his readiness and the banner drops, Ben lets Strax carry him to the collision.

(Ooc: Upon agreement with Ereth and Reader this will continue narratively.)

A brief second before contact, Ben can see Ereth's lance is off target. Shifting his left shoulder forward brings the wooden instrument splintering into his shield . Ben's own lance shatters with a resignating crash. Niether men are shaken by the impacts.

The two realign and take up lances. With haste they drive forward. Again Ben adjusts to meet Lord Redwain's wooden harbinger. The effect, another broken lance. Ben easily rides through the shrapnel of his own exploding timber. A solid blow, but still Ereth retains his perch.

The final pass brings a mighty clangor. Ereth couches and targets his lance on point, so Ben has only to concentrate on a solid hit. Whether from the hits full concentration or wear on his body, Lord Ereth finally sways in the saddle. His body laid back low over the horse's flanks before up-righting himself. Rocking himself in the saddle, Ben quickly recovers.

Those near enough to hear Lord Marsten's honeyed words to Alya smile at his praise for Lord Redwain's bride.

Alya herself is no demure, blushing bride and laughs at the praise and Benedict's praise.

She raises a goblet towards Lord Marsten and her husband, draining half of it in salute.

A most irregular bride, but then these are irregular times.

Ben reigns strax, around and gallops down to Lord Ereth. He flips his helm to Willum.
"
My Lord, you are a quick learner."
He chuckles. "
But seriously, a bit more lance work and you are bound to be a formidable jouster."

Looking over his shoulder he indicates Alya with a inclination of his head. "
I hope you are the reason that pilots said vessel. Remember to cherish these days they seem to slip by quickly, when duty calls."

Pulling his eyes back to Ereth he smiles warmly. "
Consider your horse and armor part of your wedding gift, my Lord."

"
Aye, taking care of a House and leading men in war has rusted my jousting"
he chuckles "
A bit better horse riding and better armor too I might add"
he shakes hands with lord Benedict.

Looking over his shoulder that is two of us, now I finally get to sit on my ass and enjoy the festivity and my wife"
filling a bit ashamed for his prior thoughts "
You are very honorable man, and thank you for letting me keep my horse, it has been with me for sometime, so its value is greater, my armor... not so much"
he chuckles

"
I hope you enjoy my lands, if you are for sigh seeing and cider drinking, even if lord Bartheld has brought plenty of wines for the event. I suppose the change of mountains for nice green fields and pleasant sights could sometimes work well, you should visit the orchard, thee is a very nice place that the tree branches intertwine creating a nice shaded tunnel to cross and very... interesting and romantic some will say, after all like you say, best use the few moments like this to enjoy yourselves"

Willum Royce inspects Lord Marstens helm for dents or lance shrapnel - the squire is as attentive to his lord's equipment as he is to the jousting. A job lad and likely to make a fine knight.

"
A kind gesture to our host my lord, it may make up for you showing him up at his wedding."

Ben waves his readiness. When the signals is given he spurs, Strax, forward. No posturing or aggression just man, horse, and lance. His stiff blow rattles his opponent, while it can not be said the same for Codine's. It landed with much less force.

Ben decides to go it safe and ride defensively, hoping to maintain. His opponents height in the saddle gives him a split second of lead. Codine's rocking blow combined with his own angled profile throws Ben's lance far off target.

He curses under his helm. Rounding for the next pass.

Ben knows unhorsing is a must. He rises high in the stirups and drives Strax hard. He lands a solid blow but not devastating. Ben's only blessing the high angle of Codine was not conducive with his own blow. The golden heart tumbles from his horse. Ben breaths a sigh of relief.

After some time a knight bearing the arms of House Ryger finally decides to tap the shield of House Marsten calling out lord Marsten to defend his position.

Ser Gilbar Ryger second son of House Ryger with a bad temper and worse manners takes his place waiting for lord Marsten and the signal to charge him with not much technique, but brute force which might cost him if he fails.
