Randomly-chosen, non-political debates, with the sides chosen randomly. Stuff like comparing two prestigious types of wine, rather than anything with a Green/Black tinge. Because two people will be debating against each other with positions they've just been given, this challenges improvisation.

Cunning (TN9) +1B per degree of success, -1D for failure.
Persuade (Charm or Convince, maybe others?) (TN9)
1st: 16GD, a set of beautiful illuminated books on a variety of esoteric lore (worth 4GD, 160ss), +1 TP
2nd: 10GD
3rd: 5GD

[Note: goods may be sold at full cash value at the tourney. Effectively, they're colour.]

While this will be a 'tournament' of sorts, for the sake of speed, just roll once for the whole thing, to indicate how well you do overall. Rankings will be based on that.

Cunning: 2d6 10
Persuasion (Convince): 6d6k5 19
Forgotten bonus dice: 1d6 5
Convince total - 21 (3 DoS)

Corrine was used to debating her own position on a pre-prepared subject, but the random element proved not as daunting as she expected. It turned out that trying to find the good in things helped a great deal.

Perhaps surprisingly, for those who knew her, Gwyn didn't immediately fall back on her charm to try to bamboozle her way through the debate. Indeed, she found some cogent arguments and some credible repartee' with her opponent. The results were perhaps not as impressive as they might have otherwise been, but perhaps credit could be extended for someone venturing outside their comfort zone and trying something new.

There are a great many noble-born who'd never think of wandering into the middle of a tourney grounds' melee, simply by recognizing it wasn't their field, and they'd be unsafe there.  Aerion is the opposite.  He's content, there, confident, aware of the stakes and certain of his ability to accord himself well.  This, however, is not his battleground, and so he's content to stand on the sidelines;  listening attentively, trying to learn the highborn tricks of rhetoric and inflection...and maybe learn a thing or two about what it is nobles argue about, besides war.

Baelon usually avoids debates like these. The fact of the matter is that while he could charm his way through most things, he wasn't really the deepest thinker, and often had difficulties remembering the details of such scholarly matters. In honor of the occasion though, he had decided to give it a go. He was reminded of just how much Daveth had been forced to step outside of his comfort area, and as a result how much he had grown and changed from the timid youth Baelon had met while receiving the bread and salt at Riverrun what seemed a lifetime ago, but was really only, what 3 years? Well. Not so much a timid youth now, that's for sure. Daveth had grown into a fine, strong man, familiar with and accepting of his limitations, and confident - well, more confident - in his strengths.

Wait, what am I supposed to be talking about now? Oh stuff it. I'll just do what I always do, it works well enough when I need it to.

Baelon performed... passingly. It was fairly evident though that he was really, really not cut out to be a scholar.
The fact that halfway through he started laughing about his own trip-ups added some levity to the competition, but didn't win him any points in the judges eyes.

Lords used words. Words carried weight. A chance to polish his speaking skills. It turns quickly to banter and jokes. Ben was always better at making someone laugh or smile than push is way on others. He had found it got the job done and often his impact lasted longer.

Debating random topics, though often with hidden meanings, seemed to be a bit of past time at Kings Landing and it stood Jorah in good stead. Perhaps it was the familiar surroundings that helped him be in good cheer for it was always good to come home.

Coldbrook tourney - Talk, talk, talk ! (Cunning TN 9): 3d6 10 (1 DoS)
Coldbrook tourney - Talk, talk, talk ! (Persuasion TN 9): 7d6k4 18

Ser Alfred had looked twice as he was assigned his particular debate topic... But well, he put all his wits together and started on a flurry of arguments of the top of his head and he had to say, it felt like it was coming together quite well. After all, it didn't matter whether he agreed with what he had to argue for, did it ?
