[Day 8, Greens& Blacks] The bastard and the bride [Open?]

OOC: I'm going to assume putting this here is fine as it's a special case, with the participants of Greens and Blacks hurrying all about in the panic.

The sept is mildly crowded from castle residents seeking refuge from the dreams and, or, from the chaos of the agitated Green and Black supporters. The pews were cleared from the center and lined up to serve as makeshift beds for a few injured being treated. The good septon of Riverrun prayed aloud as believers huddled around the shrine to the Mother, with others interspersed among the other aspects of the Seven. The self-redeeming miscreants working for the kindly septon from House Dulver were skeptical of the Coldbrook warrior bidding for entry, but allowed her through at his behest.

I understand I must be needed elsewhere to help keep the peace. I promise I won't be long."
She sets about looking for someone in particular, anchored just long enough to hear the stout fellow's response.

Her eyes browse the scenery as she goes, making her way toward the front to see the pews occupied by the injured. They light upon the stained red spot on the bandages covering Corrine's flank, and immediately she swifts to her side.

"
Lady Corrine! Will she be all right?"
she asks Arlyn, who follows to see how he might be of assistance. Can she hear me? Poor girl, I hope she's took something for the pain.

Corrine was lying on one of the pews, on her left side, so her wound could be attended to. It was being wrapped in bandages from her waist down the injured leg. From her drowsy appearance, and the fact she seemed unconcerned that an immodest amount of her bare flesh was currently visible through the rip in her dress, that she had been given milk of the poppy.

she says dreamily. "
I'll be alright. 'Tis but a flesh wound. As long as I don't look at it, I will be alright."


Her head sways round to answer Septon Arlyn;

I'm afraid we have no Maester, Septon, but by all means pass it on to Septa Heloise."


Her eyelids blink slowly, heavily.

She sighs with relief. "
Thank the gods. Thank you for your assistance, septon. I'd heard Benedict was carryin' you here, m'lady. How'd this happen?"

I tried to call for peace in the middle of the brawl, and a Blackwood guardsman slashed me with a knife. Ben &
Ellie found me and brought me here. I'm afraid it's all been rather fraught."

My Lady, does your Septa have any training in the healing arts?"
the Septon asked with concern. "
If not, may I ask to accompany you, at least till your wound is healed. I know it seems like a minor thing but I have seen simple cat scratches turn into gangrene and lose peoples limbs."

Oh Gods! Mother!

Corrine suddenly asks, her voice frightened and urgent through the drugged slowness.

Says the Septon, Gently easing her back onto the bench, "
You are in no condition to go anywhere. You should be ok here for now and I will send someone with a note for you to your mother ok?"
He gestures for one of the boys who was helping him tend to the wounded. "
James, will you please go into my chamber, on the desk is a quill and parchment, bring them to me, quickly please."
The young boy scampers off to the chamber located off the Sept. "
Now my Lady, I know you are concerned for your mother but you must think about her safety as well. If she were to hear that you were injured..."
Septon Arlyn let those words sink in, "
I think that we should just let her know that you are safe here in the Sept, and that your very strong protective husband is here with you."
The Septon Gives a reassuring smile. "
I'm sure that she is safe as well, I doubt she went anywhere without an escort, they will keep her safe. But if she is anything like my mother she will likely give you a tongue lashing for shirking your guards again."

Ben rises from where he was kneeling with Ellie, as Corrine begins to get upset. He stands nervously behind the large septon as he attempts to calm her. He smiles weakly to Corrine. His concern plain in his heavy lidded eyes.

Corrine oneys, lying back down and giving the Septon a slow nod;

Alright, Septon. Please, have him bring back news of mother. I want to know she is safe."

Loreia's concern drops whens he notices Ben. She should have put a name to that flaxen head of hair when she saw the sigil he wore. And there was Ellien, of course, nipping at his heels. She feels a bit put on the spot with these caring individuals around, and in the middle of a sept. Nonetheless, she's resolute in the objective for her visit. Dear girl, please don't make this difficult.

She bows first, and addresses the Blackthorne with a firm stare. "
Ser Benedict. It's swell to see you lookin' after your betrothed, right an' proper. However. I understand you paid a visit to our camp?"
The gesture she makes with her fist remains after her bow to draw his eye to the sigil of House Coldbrook.

She pauses for a reaction, but not for any longer. "
You were seen assaultin' Garret Snow, Lord Coldbrook's son, my ward, brazenly in front of a group of witnesses. Care to explain why?"

James comes back, small amount of ink spilled on his shirt in his haste to bring the inkwell, quill and parchment back. "
Thank you my boy."
Replies the Septon

The Boys mouth begins to quiver slightly "
i'm sorry Your Holiness, I didn't mean to spill the ink."

The Septon smiles to james. "
You brought this inkwell to me as quickly as you could. The gods understand that at times we must dirty ourselves slightly in order to accomplish what they desire of us in the time that they want us to. If the gods would be lenient of me, then am I better then God? No I think not my child, thus there is no need to grant you forgiveness for your have not sinned in the eyes of the gods."
The Septon Replies on a soothing tirade.

We will be quite safe until the colophony clams down and myself and Benedict will personally escort her back to your Pavilions.

The Septon is a bit taken aback by the accusations of Loriena. "

Corrine sits up again, looking between Ben and Loreia with a furrowed brow;

she asks, incredulous.

Ben closes his eyes and exhales deeply, knowing where this is headed before she gets there. He bows back out of respect for the guardswoman. "
Aye I struck him. Just once. I will admit I should have circumvented the camp due to the dread in the air. It was not an assault. It was a warning. His disrespectful words and inappropriate behavior with noble woman, especially betrothed and married must end. Had it been Ser Benjen or a shadowy individual he had disrespected he may have had a blade in his gut."


Ben looks to Corrine a bit ashamed of his actions. "
I like Daveth and if House Coldbrook is to prosper someone has to put Garret in line. I know it was not my place. For that I will apologize to you Loreia and to Daveth, but not to Garret."


Behind him Ellie trembles in fear that Loreia is hear about the man she stabbed in the leg. She tries hard to keep her tears in check, sniffling.

*I hope I got it right when I said 'melee grounds'.*

Loreia considers. "
And it's well-received. Mayhaps Daveth would've arranged for satisfaction. But now, instead of Garret, you'll face me. Ser Benedict, I challenge you to a duel in honorable combat. We'll meet on the morrow on the melee grounds and fight until first blood."

Corrine exclaimed. "

she protests, though her drowsiness dulls her tone of annoyance and disappointment. "
Loreia, if you would spare a moment, I think I can explain."

She cocks an eyebrow at Corrine. "

This ought to be good. Is she about to explain why hitting Garret was not an offense to his father and his house?

Garrett was... inappropriate towards me yesterday, and I mentioned it to Ben, which has clearly upset him more than I had thought at the time. Perhaps, if I spoke to Garrett, once this stuff wears off and I can think &
speak better, I could try to smooth things over. I do not wish there to be more violence on my account, especially not between those whom I hold in esteem."

With a look of annoyance, Ben shakes his head. "
There is no need to explain. Here."
Ben shoves his sword at Loreia. "
You win. Duels over. Tell everyone you bested me if you feel it makes you feel better. I have no wish to fight you. Duels are about honor. Garrets actions had none."

Loreia was not overly cross before, she is now, as Ben refuses and adds insult twice over with the suggestion that she proclaim false victory in a duel that never was, on top of shoving his sword out in front of her. Lowering at him, she unsheathes her sword as well to be practical in communicating what the action means to her.

she rejoins, cheeks flushing with indignation. "
I won't puff up my hide to save yours. Would you prefer if I inform Lord Coldbrook that you refused?"

The people here have been traumatized by louts with weapons enough this evening and have come here seeking a place of refuge. If you want to have this quarrel then I suggest removing yourself from the Sept"

I will admit my actions were unbecoming. As it stands now what has transpired is between Garret and I. If there is a duel both his actions and mine will come to light. Staining his reputation as well mine, but I believe House Coldbrook will take the brunt of the damage. I like Daveth and i do not care to see his family lose influence."

The sworn sword's refusal to allow her to do find her personal satisfaction in the dispute irks her. He has a point, though. Settling "
off-the-field"
would probably save a little face - if only a little. Befuddlement contorts her ire, puzzled by his continued refusal. Ellie's presence hurts her position, and her familiarity with Loreia's kinship with Daveth wanes her ardent defense. It is how he would want to settle the matter. This is bad blood, and this is how we solve it, girl!
